Our earlier efforts at building a permanent site  for the Troopers from the class of 70 to obtain and exchange information and images,
were shelved in favor of a site to promote the 40 year reunion and allow for Facebookular interchange.
As most of you know, I have always looked at things from a different perspective.
Therefore, I will endeavor to deliver, over the course of the coming year,  something very different from one time event promotion and exchange of cordial greetings.

Enjoy,
Cootz

In an effort to jog our collective memory, I have added Senior “Then” Pictures
to the “Where are they now?” section.  I have also added a column for your “Now” picture.
(Use the filter to find Last Name  Equal to Lindstrom if you want to see how this is going to work)

If you wish to see a list of folks we haven’t found yet, just Search for Country Equal to ??
Those who are no longer with us have Country Equal to Deceased
Finally, the Country is marked Private, IF we have not yet received your authorization to reveal your whereabouts.

Just send Barry Lindstrom an email if you want to allow your classmates and anyone else looking at this site to see where you are. (Country City and State ONLY)

Also, if you want to send us a now picture and/or
reveal your email address, website, etc to the masses and/or
if you just don’t want anybody to see that Senior picture(Hey, I have looked at all 290 pictures posted and mine is by far THE WORST!!!)
just let me know.

Above all Enjoy,
Barry

Reunion Committee Meeting Minutes

January 25, 2010

In attendance:  Sandy McMullen (Kummerer), Mary Jo McDonald (Cooke), Kathi Millet (Zick),

Colleen Yates (Hallen), Jon Trathen

The meeting was held at T.J. Maloney’s in Merrillville, IN.

The following items were discussed:

  1. The group went over the updated list of classmates we have not been able to locate (sent by Bill Marlatt).  There were a few names that we still may be able to contact, but most of them will be “Shout Outs” by Kat Millet.  Sandy will provide the information to Bill and Barry Lindstrom to include on the website he has created for similar “Shout Out” type information.  Kat will email Mark Miller to have him post similar information on My Space.  Kat is also going to research putting information on the Wirt 60s website.

2.      Sandy will be sending an updated email to classmates (postage costs prohibit a second mailing) as a reminder of the “Early Bird” price deadline of January 31, 2010.  She is also going to attach the questionnaire for everyone to complete so we have information for the program book.  Sandy’s information will be available on the class website, My Space and Facebook.

3.      All information received from the questionnaires will go into a Google share drive so that this information is not accessible to anyone but Bill, Sandy & Karen Isenhour (Easley) for use in putting the program together.

4.      Mary Jo will take care of putting a Reunion announcement in both The Times and The Post Tribune.

5.      Bill, Karen & Barry are coordinating efforts to put together a slide show and do the name tags with class pictures on them.

Even though the list for the minutes is short, we spent a lot of time going over the missing names and general discussion of how great the web site looks, etc.  It was a good meeting and the committee members, both local and out of state, are really getting excited for a great event.

Everything is falling into place; our focus now is to get responses and payment from as many of our classmates as possible.

The next committee meeting will be held on Monday, March 15th, 6:30 p.m. at

T.J. Maloney’s in Merrillville, IN.

Reunion Committee Meeting Minutes

December 7, 2009

In attendance:  Sandy McMullen (Kummerer), Mary Jo McDonald (Cooke), Kathi Millet (Zick),

and Peggy Guernsey.

The meeting was held at T.J. Maloney’s in Merrillville, IN.

The following items were discussed:

1.      Sandy met with her hotel contact to lock in prices for the Meet & Greet @ T.J. Maloney’s on Friday, 8/20 and also for the dinner in the Radisson on Saturday, 8/21.  The customized appetizer buffet for Friday evening has been confirmed and it is quite extensive.  As a reminder, alcohol charges are not included in this price.

The menu for Saturday evening will be as follows:  Garden Green Salad with cucumber, carrots & tomatoes, choice of two dressings; Sirloin of Beef with Mushroom Demi Glace, Italian Sausage & Sweet Peppers, Rosemary Roasted Chicken; Roasted New Red Potatoes; Roasted Seasonal Vegetables; Dessert will be Cheesecake with Strawberries & Whipped Cream.  This dinner will be served family style.  By going this route we had more options, more food & a better price.  The meal includes coffee, hot tea, iced tea & milk.

There will be a vegetarian option at no extra cost for anyone requesting it.  We will provide this information to the guests prior to the event.

Because this is family style, the Radisson will have a lazy susan on each table.  There will also be a 6” mirror & candle as a centerpiece.  We will be using red & white linens.  This is included in price and saves the committee the time/trouble of making/ buying centerpieces.

The bar for Saturday night will start at 6:00 p.m., close at 7:00 p.m. while we have our picture taken, then re-open and stay open through dinner until 11:30 p.m.  There will be no alcohol served after 11:30 p.m.

2.      Linda Kittle Cunningham has been contacted about doing the class picture.  She has requested a half hour prior to dinner to do the photograph.  She will charge $10.00 per picture, payable in cash that evening to Linda.  She will make sure that everyone is mailed their photo.

So, we will have cocktails on Saturday from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. – we will all be really smiley and happy when we have our pictures taken at 7:00 p.m. – and then dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. (realistically 7:45).

3.      Emails & U.S. postal mailings will be going out very soon with the invitation, a flyer with information on the Radisson and a Personal Contact information sheet.  We are hoping to get a good response with the early bird price of $20 for Friday evening and $75 for Saturday (per person) if paid before January 31, 2010.

4.      Sandy will coordinate with Bill Marlatt a letter to accompany the mailings.

5.      Peggy has the address labels printed.  It was decided that a postage paid return envelope would be too much money.

6.      Karen Easley Eisenhauer and Bill Marlatt will work together to put together our program book.  Sandy McMullen will maintain a file on all data.

7.      The DJ has been selected for Saturday, 8/21.  Keith Jones (a Wirt grad) has been doing this for 27 years and Mary Jo and Kathi have both seen him.  He is very good and interacts with the crowd.  He normally charges $1,000 but because he knows Mary Jo he is going to give us a price of $850.  Mary Jo will confirm the date and take care of signing the contract.  If a deposit is required Mary Jo will let Sandy know.

Keith will provide lighting to set the mood – not dominate.  He will let us use his equipment for any announcements we might want to do.  He will set up between 4 & 4:30 and is scheduled to play from 6:00 p.m. to Midnight.

Keith told Mary Jo that in his years of doing reunions – they are never the same.  He has all types of music and will “play it by ear” as far as songs.  He said he will play to the crowd.  There will probably be a mix of “oldies” and depending on whether we have a dancing crowd or a stand around chatting crowd he’ll gear his selections accordingly.

8.      Sandy will contact Mark Miller to get the Wirt 1970 Reunion Facebook page up-to-date.  We will also have an official reunion website after the first of the year.  This is being looked into.

9.      Name tags and other items will be discussed at the next meeting.

The next committee meeting will be held on Monday, January 18th, 6:30 p.m. at

T.J. Maloney’s in Merrillville, IN.

Reunion Committee Meeting Minutes

November 4, 2009

In attendance:  Sandy McMullen (Kummerer), Mary Jo McDonald (Cooke), Kathi Millet (Zick),

and Peggy Guernsey.

The meeting was held at T.J. Maloney’s in Merrillville, IN.

The following items were discussed:

  1. Sandy took the group on a tour of the various areas we will be using for the Reunion.      T.J. Maloney’s is the sight for the Friday night get-together and we will have the use of a very nice area in the back of the restaurant/pub.  Plenty of room to mingle and enjoy refreshments.  There is also a hospitality room that will be available to us throughout the weekend.  This room will be more of a reunion headquarters area or place for people to sit and relax.  There will be no liquor or food set up in this area.  The banquet room for Saturday night is nice and your typical banquet room set-up.

2.      The cost for rooms at the Radisson will be $129 + taxes.  Right now, 20 rooms are being held.  We are not obligated to book any rooms, so there won’t be a penalty if we do not use all 20 rooms.  Another plus for having the reunion at the Radisson is that there are several other hotels in the area if someone wants to stay elsewhere.

3.      The Friday evening event will start at 7:00 p.m. and we have the room until 1:00 a.m.  There will be a 2 hour window that appetizers will be available.  The committee felt that 8:00 – 10:00 p.m. for the appetizers would be good.  We are figuring right now that the cost for Friday’s event will be $25 per person.  This does not include alcohol.  We felt that by having a cash bar it would be more appealing to the majority.  This way you are not paying for alcohol if you don’t drink and we can keep the price down and have a nice variety of appetizers.

4.      Saturday’s event is $85 per person which includes an open bar.  We have plans to offer an early bird incentive for both evenings of $20 for Friday night & $75 for Saturday night.  Right now we are looking at a January 31st deadline for the early bird prices.

5.      Kathi & Peggy will be working on getting the contact info needed to send out the invitations.  Mary Jo will be contacting Mark Miller to make sure we have the most up-to-date information.  As soon as we know from Mark, Kathi & Peggy will get busy trying to contact the remainder of our class.  The plan is to make the invitation available through the internet in order to save postage, so, hopefully, we will be able to reach the majority of the class via email.  The remainder will be mailed and Peggy will take care of getting clear labels for the mailing.

Page 2

6.      We pretty much ruled out a live band because of cost.  We have two DJ options that we will check out in the near future.  Sandy has the information on one and Mary Jo has the information on the other.

7.      Sandy will get with Lucy Donovan (Steudl), Class of ’69 – to work up the invitation.  Lucy has offered to help us out and we will be able to use some of the ideas they used for their reunion.

8.      Sandy has been in touch with Karen Easley, who has offered to help with the Program Book.

9.      Kathi Millet will be contacting Linda Kittle (Cunningham) who took our class pictures at the last reunion to see if she would want to take care of it again.

10.    It was the general consensus of the very small committee that we could really use some additional help.  If anyone in the area would like to help out we would welcome any assistance we could get.

11.    It was agreed by the four of us that this reunion will be a really great time and that having it at the Radisson was really a wonderful idea.  We’re excited!!

The next committee meeting will be held on Monday, December 7th, 6:30 p.m. at

T.J. Maloney’s in Merrillville, IN.

Reunion Committee Meeting Minutes

August 5, 2009

Attendees:  Sandy McMullen (Kummerer), Mary Jo McDonald (Cooke), Kathi Millet (Zick), and Peggy Guernsey at Mary Jo’s house in Valparaiso.

The following items were discussed:

1.  Possible dates were discussed, and the two most viable options right now are August 6-7 and August 13-14, 2010.  The immediate goals are to get the location and date set within the next two weeks.

2.  Five possible locations for the reunion were discussed:  Pavilion/Aquatorium, Radisson Hotel, Blue Chip Casino in Michigan City, Lakes of the Four Seasons (LOFS), and County Line Orchard.  The Blue Water Grill (on Route 12) near Ogden Dunes was discussed as a possible Friday night gathering place.

3.  The pros and cons of each site were discussed.  While the Pavilion takes us back to our original turf, there are limitations for longer term gatherings.  Beach Café is closed now, and Flamingo is a very small establishment.  Driving while under the influence to other locations (for those who partake) is a very real concern as well.  For those classmates who would like to visit Miller, an informal Sunday gathering at the beach is an option or during the day on Saturday.

4.  The Committee members agreed that it would be nice to be in one location like the Radisson Hotel or Blue Chip that offer many different options for gatherings, entertainment, and other fun activities. The main con for these sites is the room cost for locals and out of state travelers.  On the pro side, there are substantial funds left from the 30 year reunion to offset some of the event costs.  An email poll may be necessary prior to finalizing either one of these locations.

5.  Based on #4 above, LOFS and County Line Orchard were ruled out as sites.

6.  Kathi plans to get information on Blue Chip right away.  If the dates are available, then she will try to arrange a tour for the Committee for Sunday, August 9.  If the dates are not available, then Blue Chip is off the table.

7.  Mary Jo and Sandy will gather information from their Class of 69 contacts about the reunion events just held at the Pavilion/Aquatorium on August 1-2 so informed decisions can be made about these venues.  A visit to the Pavilion may be in order once more information is available.

8.  Sandy will contact the Radisson Hotel again to get more detailed information about room costs and commitment along with the possibility of having a hospitality suite.

9.  Mary Jo will also get information about Dave Owen’s band (played at the Class of 69 reunion).

10.  Kathi has contacts for a DJ and will get cost information for the Committee.

The next meeting will be Friday, September 25, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. the Radisson Hotel (tentatively).

In the Where Are They Now Section,  you now have the ability to search for someone, by Name, Country,
City and State. However, we cannot disclose the whereabouts of our fellow students,
without their permission.  As we receive this permission, we will be populating the Grid.

Additionally there are many students who were a part of our class, but were no longer attending
Wirt in 1970. These students will be added to this list shortly.

IF, you want to give use permission to publish your whereabouts
(Country, City and State ONLY) on this website, you can contact Barry Lindstrom directly, OR
provide authorization when you fill out the Info Sheet from the Wirt 1970 Reunion Committee.

Enjoy,
Barry

PS: Keep those pictures coming!

I recently saw a feature on the value of nostalgia.  It seems it is very beneficial to look back at where we were to better appreciate where we are today.  I don’t know if this is true, but when the Wirt Class of 1970 40 year Reunion Committee asked me if I could put together a website, I figured, I could check out this nostalgia theory and maybe help some of you to do the same.

My grandfather, on more than one occasion, sent back entire loads of lumber because he found one warped board.  My father, once tore down and rebuilt the entire framework of our garage, because he “didn’t do the corners right”.  So, please, bear with me as you see this website evolve into something my geneaology will allow me to build.

Above all Enjoy,
Barry Lindstrom
